Previous complaint/enquiry

Started by: JR (527)

I posted recently (not on sports) to suggest (tongue in cheek) this Wigan site is very often a more broader agenda - nationally and internationally very often. Anyway, I'm not getting into that - I responded to a question 'have I ever posted on local football'. Yes I have on Sports and got zero response. So, again to show my commitment to more local and Wigan orientated conversation I will ask again... are there any ex members of Newtown Celtic on here. I played for them when I was 16 and unfortunately broke my leg badly which ended any potential football career. So I will advise that my input here is either totally Wigan biased or at least with some connection.

GB!
Thank you...
We were in a amateur Lancs League back in 69-72.
We played our gamed at the Pony Dick football field.
I have long potential dialogue about this but will refrain for now.
I think houses have been built there now.

Tonker... thank you; I do believe the sun does shine on me sometimes.
Roylew... Yes, the football pitch was off foundary Lane near to Pem railway station.
When I broke my leg it was an away game to Mossley Colliery. The colliery has long gone but the football field is still there. I sometimes still have a dark moment when I drive past there!

Golden Bear - nostalgia is wonderful, isn't it!
Everyone should should write their life story... not necessarily for publication but for the family we leave behind when we shuffle off the mortal coil..........

About 20yrs ago, a firm of builders bought the old football field at the side of Pemberton Station, and I played football on that pitch in 1970.

The builders obtained planning permission for some houses to be built, and at sales cabin was erected and manned, just on them main rad after the station, with a big hoarding advertising the new build of houses, and this was long before Peel Holdings had bought the old Pemberton Collieries site, it was just the football field which was to be built on.

But when the required core samples were drilled, the ground was found to be 'contaminated' and the site was abandoned, and it still is fenced off and abandoned, even though the land around it has now been built on
